Grand Princess visits Falmouth Cornwall

The 109,000-ton cruise ship Grand Princess visits Falmouth in April 2009. Too large to enter and moor alongside, the passengers were ferried back and forth by the ship’s lifeboats which double up as ferries as well as some of the local passenger boats that operate in and around the harbour St Mawes, and the Helford River.

You can see in this clip one of the Enterprise boats and at the same time see that the normal work of the Harbour continues as Lizrix the oil tanker chartered by Falmouth Oil Services makes its way back into the harbour past the Grand Princess.

The bay had several boats lying at anchor when this film was made with some waiting for work and others calling in for bunkers.

This film was taken from Pendennis point below Pendennis castle. You can see over to the Roseland and St Mawes and St Anthony’s lighthouse. The sea mist had rolled in but the sun would suddenly appear through the clouds for brief intervals.
