Summerleaze Beach – Bude
Summerleaze Beach is the nearest beach to the town centre. The beach is surrounded by dunes on one side and the town’s canal on the other. The beach has a wide expanse of good fine sand at low tide.
The famous Bude Sea Pool offers safe bathing under the watchful eye of Lifeguards.
There is disabled access from the car park, disabled toilets and a disabled sand chair is also available.
The Sand Chair should (when possible) be booked in advance, and is available from May to September. Go to Summerleaze Beach Office in person or call 01288 352226. Hire period is between 10am – 5pm weekdays and 10am – 6pm weekends. A charge of £10 may be required, along with a deposit. The chair can be taken to other beaches in Cornwall.
Ample long and short-stay parking. Lifeguards patrol this beach over the Easter period and from May till the end of September.
Amenities: Near the town centre, also the Council car park and toilets (Disabled), shops and café nearby. Beach Wheelchair available for hire from Summerleaze Beach Office. Bude Sea Pool, which has lifeguards.
Surfing Info: Good when everywhere else is maxed out. Right-handers at mid-tide also lefts at low tide. Suitable for: Beginners through to experienced surfers. Dangers: North of beach rocky, also sea pool hidden at high tide, with rocks in the pool. Strong rip (river) and also crowded in the busy season. Lots of bouncing, cross waves.Tides: Surfable at all tides. Wind: E/SE offshore.
