Newquay’s most popular beach. Excellent surfing conditions, a long sandy beach, west facing with fine golden sand. International surfing events regularly take place here. Seen as the birthplace of surfing in the UK it is home to many surf festivals, events and competitions.

Fistral beach is home to the famous Cribber.

The Cribbar occurs only on the relatively rare conditions create a famous wave up to 30ft high. The wave was first surfed by Chris Bertish in 2004.  Surfers who are skilled and adventurous enough to attempt the Cribber Big eagerly watch surf forecasts weather for n opportunity to surf the monster.

The Cribbar is the reef that runs stretches from the Towan headland. When the conditions and swell are right it breaks over the reef.

There’s a surf school and a hire shop for equipment.

A sand chair is available for hire at Fistral, call 01637 850584 to book in advance, or call in at the beach hire shop or main surf centre. Links Golf Course overlooking the beach and bay.
