Daphne Du Maurier Cornwall

In this clip Daphne du Maurier Cornwall she talks about Vanishing Cornwall in this extract from ‘The Make Believe World of Daphne du Maurier’ and is a rare opportunity to see Dame Daphne at her home in Cornwall. She talks to Cliff Michelmore on a wide range of subjects about her writing and work.

At one point in the interview, Cliff Michelmore asks about the China Clay pits and he view as some have expressed the view that are a scar on the landscape. Her reaction is interesting as she stated she loved them as they are and was scathing about plans to grass them, build ski slopes etc to bring in tourists. One can only wonder on what her view might be of Eden Project built in the heart of these China Clay workings.

She wrote 27 books in all, many of which were turned into films and television series.

This film was made in 1977 at her home Kilmarth in Cornwall, its reproduction is by courtesy of Du Maurier Productions.
