Cornwall as a Film Location

Cornwall has been a location for film makers since the  1930.s.  From Treasure Island in Falmouth to Knights of the round Table in Tintagel are just two of the better know films shot in location in Cornwall during the 1940s,and 1950s.

The 1960s saw Crooks in Cloisters filmed in St Mawes and the Beatles in Newquay at the Headland Hotel for their Magical Mystery Tour.

In the 1970's - Sam Peckinpah's 1971 film Straw Dogs, starring Dustin Hoffman and Susan George, was filmed in St Buryan. Scenes for the Onedin Line the highly successful TV series being filmed in Mousehole and Charlestown. DrWho at St Austell and of course Poldark the TV series from Wnston Graham Novelswas filmed in many locations around Cornwall.  Other 1970 productions included The Eagle has Landed with scenes shot at RAF St Mawgan Newquay.

In the 1980s we had more film crews for the Onedin Line, Omen 111 and The Shell Seekers.

The 1990s saw another Poldark, More Wycliffe, another Treasure Island 12th Night and Rebecca., Frenchman's Creek, Scarlet Pimpernel, Mansfield Park and Nancherrow among others.

Since 2000 Die another Day (James Bond) filmed at the The Eden Centre, Rosemary Pilcher books, The Doc Martin TV series, Ladies in Lavendar, Johnny English and many others have been filmed here in Cornwall.

The unique landscape and seascapes of Cornwall has appeared in everything from international blockbusters to long running TV series or one off productions.
