Lizard Point and Lighthouse in December

The Lizard Point and Lighthouse

Lizard Point is the most southerly point in Great Britain.

Famous for the local serpentine stone.

There has been a lighthouse on Lizard Point Since 1751, helping to protect shipping from the dangers of this beautiful yet treacherous coastline.

Below the point is the Old Lifeboat House. The present lifeboat station is a few miles east of the headland.
The Cornish Chough, is now breeding in the area and during the breeding season there is a watch kept. The Cornwall Shop has a stunning print of a Launch at the Lizard by the marine artist Phil Weeks. This shows the Lizard Lifeboat being launched down the slip in the 1960s.
