Isles of Scilly Helicopter Service

The Isles of Scilly Helicopter Service no longer operates. The Heliport was sold and is now a Sainsbury’s Supermarket. A new service now operates as Penzance helicopters

The History

British International had provided an Isles of Scilly service by helicopter since 1964 which made it the world’s longest-running scheduled helicopter service. The service operated all year round. It flew daily (except Sundays) from the Penzance Heliport to St Marys in the Isles of Scilly and to Tresco.

The helicopter used to provide the service was a Sikorsky S61 a type ideally suited for the service with large windows to ensure everyone got a great view. British International Helicopters ceased operating the service on 31st October 2012. At one point alternative sites were sought but none could be found that would meet all the requirements. ( see details above for the new service)

The Scillonian sails from Penzance harbour during the summer carrying passengers to St Marys.
