Cotehele House and Gardens on the River Tamar

The River Tamar and Cotehele House national trust in Cornwall

Cothele is a fine Tudor house set in the woods above the tidal River Tamar with superb collections of textiles, armour and furniture. The house has extensive grounds with riverside gardens

Cotehele Quay on the river is home to the restored Tamar sailing barge, Shamrock, and gateway to the wider estate, with its abundant wildlife and evocative industrial ruins all that remains of a rich industrial past.

At the Quay old buildings house the Edgcumbe Arms tea-room. The restored Tamar sailing barge Shamrock is moored alongside. The Quay Museum tells Shamrock's history, of trade on the river, the shipbuilding, mining, quarrying in the Tamar Valley.

The estate is has many miles of footpaths as well as both riverside and woodland walks. There is a working watermill and industrial ruins in the Danescombe Valley
